About myself:

Did you know that every thing in this world can be modulated and be analysed like a control system that we see in our daily life? From A to Z!!! From analysing the behavior of the atoms to analysing a non linear system in machines to telecommunication analyses and even furthur to analysing the whole galaxy!!!! The more I go deeper to my field of study the more it becomes fascinating.

I’m Ehsan, 31 years old (let’s say, age is just a number! who cares… 😂) and I’m from Iran.

I am a person who is positive about every aspect of life. There are many things I like to do, to see and to experiance. I do love biking, trips and the most important one : studying and teaching!

I always wanted to be a great teacher at a university and the chance of being one, was given to me about one and half year ago when I started studying at Fontys! So Thanks Fontys!

About PROUD : How many of you know the percentage of chances that a student gets a good offer for a job after graduation?

Let this idea sink in for a second and then imagine what it would be like if students would have more practical perspective in terms of their workplace and study environment. This represents the main goal of PROUD. Gaining experience in the field of study is certainly one of the most important aspects for all students and it is a great advantage when it comes to applying for a job.

But this is not the only goal of being a PROUD member!

We, as PROUD members, learn how to improve our soft skills, how to share our gained knowledge from companies with other students.

At last, we are not just members, but a new PROUD’s constructors generation.

Nikola Panchev

Hi,

My name is Nikola Panchev, and I am currently a second year Electrical Engineering student in Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven, and I am a new PROUD member. I am a guitarist, and I am passionate about music and my drive for studying electrical engineering comes from my ambition to combine both things. Therefore, throughout my first year I was involved in projects such a sound amplifier and a laser harp MIDI-controller, and I am looking forward to being part of more projects in that area. I spend my free time with a lot of music-related stuff – I am a part of the StuentProof Bigband, I play guitar and bass, I learn about and design guitar pedals, etc.

I like problem solving and teamwork, I am good at the software part of projects, but I’d like to learn more about analog. I am certain that PROUD will help me with the experience I need in order to become an engineer in the near future.

Rik Oudega
Rik Oudega

Bachelor Program: Electrical and Electronics Engineering

My name is Rik Oudega and I’m currently a second- year Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at Fontys Eindhoven.

Ever since I was young, I’ve been intrigued by everything that has a button, switch or little light. As I grew older, my interests in electronics developed further. I loved taking things apart and putting them back together. When I was first introduced to programming, I started developing skills in web-based programming, which has given me a lot of helpful insights into programming in other languages.

In my free time I love working on my own projects, combining hardware and software to see my ideas come to life and see my programming take shape in the physical world. When I’m not busy with my studies or projects, I love to be active! I’m a member of the student swimming association and the student cycling association at the Student Sports Centre Eindhoven, which keeps me active most days of the week.

As a student I enjoy collaborating with my peers and working on different projects. I have a keen interest in mathematical subjects and design courses such as Digital Design or in designing my own PCBs.

As a future engineer, I hope to make a difference for society and to experience new emerging technologies firsthand. I feel certain that the PROUD programme will give me my first experiences in the professional world of engineering and help me grow as a student.

Kliment Kostov
Kliment Kostov

Bachelor Program: Mechatronics Engineering

I am Kliment Kostov. I have lived in the Netherlands for over a year now, studying mechatronics engineering in the Fontys University in Eindhoven. The mechatronics field has proven to be the end point of all of my previous interests and accomplishments, because it allows me to have an objective look on how everything works, should work, and what can be done if it does not.

I have previously been interested in math, dedicating hours upon hours of pondering tricky logical problems. I used to spend most of my weekends in theoretical physics courses for a few years in high school. I dedicated most of my summer vacations as a teenager to physics and astronomy camps, with heavy emphasis on advanced math, like integration. I have also played piano and guitar and my next of kin are all artists. I could see the world from different angles. But I wanted to not just observe, I wanted to experience.

Engineering allows me to apply all of my mind and willpower into conception and creation. Those integrals can now be used to shape the world, in much the same way my family does it. I am fond of how design requires imagination, how mechanics recreates reality, how software dictates order and composition, how electronics gives direction and meaning, with just subtle detail and how all of those combined make me, and how I can move others.

I am currently looking for a job and if I can offer anything, it would be my ability to channel all of my being into the concept and modelling of the project I am given. I also have a good sense of humor.

Jelle de Haas
Jelle de Haas

Bachelor Program: Electrical Engineering

Hi, my name is Jelle de Haas and I am aElectrical Engineering student. The moment that sparked my interest in technology was when I participated in the Lego League in primary school. Before my bachelor I studied MBO mechatronics and this decision came after visiting multiple open evenings of companies to find my biggest technological interest. Thanks to this study program I have a broad background with some basic knowledge of a lot of things. I also got a lot of experience in the practical field and with project working, which I always really liked. During this study program I also found my biggest interest to be in Electrical Engineering, which is the reason for my study choice.

At the moment I really like all the courses of the study, which makes it hard for me to say what I like working with the most. What I do know is that I am interested in mathematics and physics as a whole. The subject that I am really interested in is the medical field and I enjoy project based work in a team environment a lot.

Now I want to investigate my interests further and gain more experience in the practical field on engineering level, and to be able to see the possibilities so I can find out what my biggest interesting subject is before I have to make a choice. My biggest motivation is to keep learning every day to become a better version of myself, to be able to do my part in making the world a better place and of course to keep doing what I love to do.

H😊,

My name is Diana Ivanova and I am currently a second year Electrical and Electronic Engineering student here at Fontys University of Applied Science in Eindhoven and I am one of the newest PROUD members. As a student, I am highly motivated and I have passion for math, physics and electronics. I am also a big fan of music and I am searching for a way to combine my passions. This is why I was really excited to get involved in soundrelated projects such as making a Guitar Amplifier or an Analogue Synthesizer during my first year at Fontys. Moreover, I would like to be part of similar projects in the future.

I am driven to learn more about developing a project, making a good product design and experiencing with programming languages while working and also communicating with others from the engineering fieldI believe that will help me become a better engineer. I would say that is my ambition and also my reason why I wanted to join the PROUD. I am happy to be part of this community!

Bachelor Program: Electrical Engineering

Hello, I am Chuong Dang the newly accepted PROUD member this year 🤗It is a great honor to be a part of this amazing community with talented individualsI believe this is a wonderful, unique opportunity for my personal development. As I can learn from the experienced essential skills in communication, job application and technical knowledge that is going to benefit during my future career.

Oh dear, that felt so cringe 😱🤣. Anyways, a little bit about me: I would consider myself as a chill and easy-going person. These qualities are more annoying then beneficial to be honest as, sometimes, I could not behave productively and responsibly even with strong motivations (for instance: deadlines…). Moreover, it usually takes longer for me to feel comfortable and get a hang of new concepts (study topics, ideas, etc.) because want to be sure that I know exactly what to do and how to do it in the finest way to my ability, yeah… elaborative guys are bothersome...

For more detailed information like my favorite subjects, my plans, my hobbiesjust comment down below and we can have a conversation together since I enjoy informal conversations more (if you don’t mind).

Last but not least, a like or share would be very much appreciated 😊. You can also contact me through my own personal LinkedIn account.

Bachelor Program: Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Dreaming to be an engineer is something my environment influenced greatly. Being the youngest in my family, I have older siblings and friends who loved to talk about physics, technology and engineering. As expected, I grew up liking engineering and being fascinated by the fact that I could bring an idea to life, from idea brainstorming to developing products/systems down to testing and troubleshooting for errors and potential issues. All this drives me as a person. My inspiration in engineering comes from (maybe quite silly 😂) Iron Man – A true definition of fun engineering, impact, entrepreneurship, and perseverance.

My interests in Electronics / Electrical are Control Systems and Embedded Systems with a touch of software. I am yet to pick one (now testing the waters) or combine them – Embedded Control Systems.

PROUD allows motivated students to do more outside the university’s curriculum. From professional growth through practical growth in companies to even building social skills, PROUD provides the environment. For this reason, I joined the PROUD community.

About myself: I was 14 years old, when my passion for Electrical Engineering was born. My previous education however didn’t provide me with enough practical knowledge and experience. Since I am in the Netherlands, I’ve learned a lot and had great opportunities to express myself. Still, there is always new things to learn and I am constantly looking for challenges which will help me. Right now, I am a part of Force Fusion robotics team inspiring the younger generations, passing on the knowledge, skills and the urge to create. As a PROUD member as well, I am aiming not only to improve myself but to be a part of it as a team.

About PROUD:  I joined PROUD because I believe that it will give me more knowledge, experience and will help me develop both my soft and hard skills. Being part of it will help me improve my weak point and build up my strong ones enough further.  I am ready to give the best of myself to contribute to the growth of the PROUD community and be part of this amazing journey.

Jorg De Koning
Jorg De Koning

Bachelor course: Mechanical Engineering
Semester:

Since I was a young little boy I have been working with my hands to create and develop new things. The ability to build something out of nothing made me feel satisfied. And it still does, therefore I am still doing the same, but then on a different level: I am studying Mechanical Engineering.

In my spare time, I really like working with my hands. With my own welding machine I’ve made several things through the past years: a wood stove, a steel table, a welding smoke suction machine and so forth. Moreover, I am a fanatic football player who is also a referee during matches on Saturday.

I joined PROUD because the study does not fulfil all my aspirations. A professional enterprise is able to challenge me more by providing complex assignments in the business field. Working one day a week at a company to become a better engineer excite me a lot, but is above all very educational and challenging. Furthermore, I want to help the committee grow, become a valuable member and have a lot of fun with my fellow students.

Jim Berveling
Jim Berveling

When I was just a little kid, my parents already knew that I would end up in the technical industry. And they were right. At the age of 14 years old I had decided to start my high school degree in mechatronics. And after four years I had found out that I was more interested in electronics.

However, when searching for the right institution to follow electrical engineering at, I noticed that I felt a lack of personal contact with most schools. Sharing experiences and learning by doing are the things that attract me the most. This was the main reason why I chose for Fontys.

And now, after a successful year, I can really start developing myself as an engineer. The right place to initiate that would be proud. Getting the opportunity to do extra-curricular activities at companies of interest can help me fulfill my ambitions. Knowing that proud is a community that consists of people that are like-minded, I am happy and motivated to share all the experiences  I have during the road to graduation and beyond.

Role in PROUD committee: Co-chairman

About myself: I am Arne and I’m 22 years old. I study Electrical Engineering because I liked technology in general and after some visits at Fontys I liked Electrical over the Mechanics. I’m currently still finding out what my specialization is and what I like to do the most. I worked during PROUD at Simac QuadCore in Veldhoven. There I am working with the Phoenix PLCnext.

Besides school, I am playing korbal quite a lot and I am one of the leading players in the first team of the club. I also train 3 youth teams ‘Under 19’ and coach the U19-1. This costs some time but I love the game that much and like to see the progress from all the teenagers. Besides this, I am also a member of the Youth Technical Commission of the club. Next to that, I started with fitness last year.

About PROUD Programme: Before Fontys I did pre-university (VWO). After I doubled the fifth year I started to think again about my next study. Almost everybody went to University but I wanted to learn a bit more practical skills and thought the smaller classes would suit me better. As I decided to go to Fontys, I made a condition for myself: If it goes well in the first year, do something extra, because I knew I didn’t do the highest education as possible. That’s where PROUD started for me. I think PROUD is a great opportunity to develop myself and gain extra experience even before the internships. In the community, you learn a lot of soft skills and meet new people from the network. Due to corona, this was not that easy, but that’s a new opportunity we have with the community!

About myself:

When I was a child, I loved every time my grandparents were taking me to the train station to see all these big monsters rolling on the tracks. That passion grew up with me becoming passionate for engineering and led me to complete my studies and start my professional career as a commissioning engineer, where I worked for more than 7 years in all kinds of projects including international experience. At one point, I decided that I wanted to keep growing in my career and stepped aside from the professional world back to education for becoming a mechanical engineer. I came attracted by the potential of The Netherlands where I can combine quality education and opportunities to direct the next steps of my career towards exciting new fields.

In Eindhoven, I found a lively space where I am enjoying my free time. I love running (or rollerblading when the weather allows it) along the canals surrounded by nature, going to the city center and sitting in a comfortable terrace, or visiting the airport for spotting some planes! I also made good friendships with other students and enjoy making plans for playing some team sports or simply organizing barbecues. And of course, when I have the opportunity of getting some days off, my favorite hobbies: traveling and scuba diving, which I try to do over the summer breaks

About PROUD Programme: The program has a lot of potential to become a success with the mechanical engineers as it has been through the years for the Electrical engineers. It is really positive for the students to gain knowledge of the professional world while they still have to take care of their study responsibilities, making them more responsible and organized. The opportunity of experiencing the applications of the topics they learn in class is definitively a unique selling point of PROUD.

About myself: I am a Bulgarian who came to the Netherlands to study electrical engineering and see how life is abroad. I don’t know why but I have been interested in engineering since I was a child and that interest just persisted over the years. When it was time to decided what my further education was going to be, I took a somewhat spontaneous choice to pursuit electrical engineering. I am interested in a lot of things, but engineering seemed like a good choice to make a profession out of.
My hobbies are motorsports with four-wheel vehicles and photography. Unfortunately, motorsports are as easy to participate in compared to the popular ones like tennis or volleyball, so usually watching the cars and taking pictures of them is the way to combine both hobbies.

About PROUD Programme: The first year in Fontys went quite well and I had a lot of free time which I spent gaming. Therefore, it was a good idea to find a job, however, I found out about PROUD. Joining PROUD and working in the engineering field was going to be better for my development compared to delivering pizza with my bike in the rain.

Until now I had not worked anything, so I was anxious whether working is going to be unpleasant and stressful. Fortunately, I found a company with a pleasant working environment and assignment which I have fun doing.

About myself: A few years ago, I got into obtaining the best audio/video signals out of my video game consoles. I bought some modification kits which improved the audio and video quality of some of my video game consoles, and I figured out that I want to be able to design comparable things myself. When I stated to look for a study, I found that I can learn those things at Electrical Engineering.

At the time writing this article, I found the courses Digital Design and Embedded Systems suit my interests the best. I even got the ability to send in my own project idea, so at the third semester, me and six other students (two of whom are PROUD members) tried to recreate a Nintendo Entertainment System. I have learned a lot about generating and manipulating video signals during this project.

After this study, I want to do a master in Embedded Systems so I can learn even more about my favorite subjects.

About PROUD Programme: PROUD helps me to develop my soft skills and hard skills. When working at my PROUD company, I learn a lot of things which I don’t learn at Fontys. I can develop my soft skills because presenting is my weak point, and I can practice and improve this while doing things for the PROUD community.

About myself: Ever since I first laid my hands on electronics, in the form of toys as a kid, I was intrigued. To my parents’ despair, I wanted to understand how they work. I was taking everything apart and switching wires, trying to reverse engineer. However, growing up I discovered programming and started perusing a career in computer science, studying 4 years of C++ and many other programming languages in my free time. I soon discovered that the output of my programs and algorithms were not “physical” enough for me. I wanted more. I wanted my code to interact with the real world. It didn’t take long after I got my first Arduino to realize that Electrical Engineering is the best choice for me. It was my passion and I could make it my day job.  By the end of my first year studying electrical engineering and its many specializations I’ve made my mind: I want to focus on Embedded Systems and Digital Design.

My hobbies, when not tackling personal electronics projects, include photography and film. I love the entire process from scripting all the way to editing and special effects. But at heart, I am a true gear-head knowing the amazing engineering behind the cameras, both in our pockets and at Hollywood, which we take for granted. My hope is that one day I will manage to combine my profession and my hobbies and get to work on the gear used to capture the otherworldly stories and visuals from the movies.

About PROUD Programme: Through the years I’ve found that real-life challenges and projects help me learn at a faster pace than anything else. I find practical experience extremely valuable as a way to motivate theoretical studying and deeper understanding. The PROUD programme provided me with head-start for my internship and with valuable practical experience, first-hand and from fellow members.

I like electronics technology and that is the main reason for me to become an electrical engineer. As experience is really important for the electronics field, and I have a strong ambition to develop my working experience for the electronics world and develop the skill on the technical or soft part.

I believe PROUD is an opportunity for students like me to have more working experience besides study. PROUD is also a program that can help the education environment for Fontys. I have a strong wish to share the new knowledge and new creative product with the PROUD community. Share the experience that I gained from work can let the following students. I have a really strong ambition to gain more knowledge and skill from the industry field.

Bachelor course: Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Semester: 3

I am a second year Electrical & Electronic Engineering student from India. Having received my propaedeutic certificate within a year, I am confident the effort I put into the first year paid off. I am hardworking and can perform well under pressure. Also, due to my curious nature, I am eager to learn.

Coming from an educational system that focuses mainly on theoretical knowledge, I do not have much practical experience. And now getting the chance to apply this knowledge in practical scenarios, is very intriguing to me. I want like to go more in depth towards the practical side of the study and working alongside my study lets me get a taste of the professional world.

About myself: Understanding the many systems, tools, and machines that are around has always intrigued me. I like to learn how things operate and how we can make tools to better our environment, whether that be work or play. Having a hands-on background with Electrical systems as an Electrician, I am really enjoying getting to know more in-depth how these systems operate especially from an Electrical/Electronic perspective.

About PROUD Programme: The community here with PROUD is a great way for me to further to challenge myself to be active within the study course. Helping to create a better and more positive environment for us students to be a part of. I also really like that the PROUD community is bridging the gap between students in their studies and professionals and companies within the workplace. Being able to get out into the workplace while studying is a huge advantage for me as a student, it will really help when I go out to find an internship or possible future jobs.

Bachelor course: Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Semester: 4

About myself: Electronics have always been a passion for me. Before I started first grade, my grandfather showed me how to build a simple series circuit and I instantly fell in love. I have always pondered on how I can one day build electrical circuits and machines. Because of this I decided to go abroad and learn new things, while meeting new people. Even though, my previous studies were not connected to electronics in any way, I still managed to succeed and get very high grades, because when I get motivated I do it.

About PROUD: For me PROUD is a place where people who seek improvement can gather and work together. It is a way to constantly challenge each other to be better than before. This type of mentality is the driving force towards improvement and success, hence the main reason why I decided to be a part of the PROUD community. The main advantage of PROUD is its focus towards creating professionals. Not a lot of students have the opportunity to get a taste of working in a company. In PROUD students can get a feel for real life, which will prepare them for the road ahead.

About myself: Ever since I can remember I seek challenges in what concerns my studies and not only. I can say I was always a technical person with logical thinking and with a high curiosity and determination. I was always eager to strengthen and highlight my strong points and diminish my weak ones. Of course, everyone fails at least once. But those were the moments when I realize the only way in which you can grow and achieve your goals is to exit your comfort zone and always be perseverant. Do what you love and you’ll be one of the best.

About PROUD: I joined PROUD with the aim of doing the best out of my studies and building up my professional profile. I see PROUD as a chance of gaining more practical experience, of getting a bit of the taste of industry field while still studying. I could say it’s a training for working life, something that not everyone has the opportunity to receive. More about it, you achieve your goals being part of a supportive and united team, taking responsibilities in the community, but also having fun.
